The voice of Australian organics
The Biological Farmers of Australia, “the voice of Australian organics”, is Australia’s foremost organic body, a not-for-profit organisation that represents and develops the interests of more than 3,000 organic industry farmers, operators, producers, processors and traders. The BFA also serves the greater community, taking on the role of public educator about the benefits of organic food and farming.
The BFA is active in the development of meaningful organic standards, lobbying governments on behalf of the organic industry and supporting the growth of the organic domestic and international markets for Australian operators. It provides assistance in market intelligence, exporting requirements, and development of contacts and networks. (The BFA is not a certification body; that role is undertaken by its subsidiary companies Australian Certified Organic Pty Ltd and OGA Certified Pty Ltd (T/A Organic Growers of Australia Small Producer Program).
Anyone with an interest in organics can become a member of the BFA, as a way of supporting the organic movement and its principles, keeping up to date with developments in Australia and overseas, accessing a network of like-minded people and having a role in BFA’s future.
BFA Members receive two quarterly publications and e-newsletters, market research reports, discounts on products and services, invitations to organic workshops and networking events and advice on all things organic. It is possible also to subscribe to the magazines without taking out a full BFA membership.
